reserve borogoru

s.o. premium traditional kava

The world of single origin kava is a realm of enchanting variety, where each varietal promises an entirely different experience.

After much searching we finally found a borogoru cultivar we could be proud to put our name behind. Borogoru is a varietal favorite amongst locals for its complex yet smooth profile and balanced heaviness.

What is kava?

Haven’t heard of kava? Kava is made from the roots of a pepper plant native to the South Pacific. It has a fascinating earthy yet numbing taste, that results from the high level of calming actives in the roots.

Natural kava is vegan, gluten-free, nonaddictive, and full of liver protecting properties.

How many servings

Each jar servings depend deeply on how strong you batch it . Keep in mind you can also batch multiple times.

Regardless, expect 14+ servings per jar

Is kava safe

Kava is generally recognized as a safer/healthier non-addictive alternative to alcohol as long as it is consumed in the traditional form.

For this reason we generally DO NOT recommend non-traditional methods of using kava such as: pills, concentrates, ready-to-drink made with concentrates, tinctures, and micronized kava. These are convenient but aside for the last one, they shouldn't be called kava. In the same way you don't put caffeine in a pill and call it coffee, you shouldn't put extract in a soda can and call it kava.

Traditional kava has not been shown to be addictive in clinical trials and does not activate physiological or psychological addiction tendancies found in beverages and supplements like alcohol or kratom.

Meet the muscle-melting maestro of the kava world

If kavas were craft beers, your typical melo melo might be the smooth and reliable Stone IPA, and this one’s the Triple Hazy IPA from Monkish —stronger, a lot more complex, and absolutely unforgettable.

Each farm has their own style of farming giving off unique fruits of their labor. Like everything in life, we thought it would be simple and quick to find a cultivar we liked, but it was well over a year until we ran across one we truly loved.

This is a remarkable kava, deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Vanuatu, yet offering a distinct experience that elevates it beyond the ordinary.

Our reserve Borogoru is the epitome of what fine Vanuatu kava represents. Upon first sip you may understand what we mean by there. There's a complexity—thick, clean, yet palatable and undeniably potent. The experience unfolds slowly, like a worn leather bound book of a well-told story, leading you deeper into a space of introspection and mental clarity.

This varietal's power lies in its ability to balance heaviness with lightness. It offers the deep, muscle-melting sedation one might expect from a heavier kava, but with an unusual smoothness that’s easy on the stomach. It's not absurdly spicy like a Fijian waka, but it gets you to that sweet kava zone. This makes it not just a tool for relaxation, but a ceremonial companion—an invitation to step back, breathe deeply, and connect with something greater within yourself.

While it’s a very drinkable kava, it is best suited for quiet, solitary moments. Probably not best for kickbacks with your friends.

Enjoy responsibly

Generic kava is BORING. Don't be boring.

about borogoru

Our recent batch of borogoru introduced a new dimension of light mental clarity and focus I haven't seen in borogoru's before. It reminded me of the underlying ceremonial purpose of kava for both the body and the soul.

Borogoru is a beloved kava variety from Vanuatu known for its well-balanced, substantial characteristics. This mellow and soothing kava offers a slow and deep-acting experiences. It's calming style unfolds a complexity not often seen in similar more potent strains.

This one is most suitable for solitary introspection, exploring deep mental expansiveness, or simply relaxing the muscles after a strenuous activity.

We hope you enjoy and thank you for your continued love and support.

For the purist at heart

drinkroot traditional kava starts with a careful selection of either single origin harvests or a hand selected blend of the top noble varietals, to create a unique premium mixture.

After the plant is pulled from the ground, the basal and lateral roots are separated, debarked, and cut up into manageable chunks for drying. Afterward every batch of roots undergoes a strict QC analysis to ensure premium kavalactone characteristics and content to match your desired experience profile.
